Changes in the reward points landscape.

Empire Company Ltd., the parent company of store chains like Sobeys, Safeway, Foodland, and others recently announced that it is ending its partnership with the Air Miles rewards program and switching to the Scene+ program instead, where Empire is taking a one-third ownership stake.

If you are one of the 10 million Canadians who collect reward points through Air Miles, this change will mean that you will no longer be able to collect Air Miles points at Sobeys, Safeway, and other Empire brands starting in August of 2022 in Atlantic Canada, and by March of 2023 in the rest of the country.

The switch marks a major shift in the landscape of Canadian reward and loyalty programs. However, if you have an Air Miles credit card, you will still be able to keep collecting Air Miles points on all your purchases, regardless of where you are spending your money.
